Compliance status

We are partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA, meaning some parts do not yet fully meet the standard.

WCAG 2.2 is the most current accessibility guidance published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Non-accessible content

We are actively working to resolve the following issues:

  • Images missing meaningful alternative text or decorative images not marked with empty alt attributes.
  • Fails WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content.
  • Insufficient colour contrast on a small number of legacy banners or badges.
  • Fails WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum).
  • Incomplete or inconsistent focus indicators on older interactive elements.
  • Fails WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible and WCAG 2.4.11 Focus Appearance.
  • Form error messages not fully programmatically associated with the relevant fields.
  • Relates to WCAG 3.3.1 Error Identification and 3.3.3 Error Suggestion.

These items are tracked and addressed through ongoing development sprints.

Disproportionate burden

We are not claiming disproportionate burden for any parts of this website.

Content not within scope of accessibility regulations

Some content may fall outside the scope of the regulations, including:

  • User-generated content
  • Third-party widgets or content not funded, developed or controlled by DKC

Even where content is out of scope, we aim to support accessible alternatives whenever possible.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

We are committed to meeting the requirements of the Equality Act 2010, which includes making reasonable adjustments for disabled customers. While the law does not mandate a specific technical standard, WCAG 2.2 AA is widely accepted as the benchmark.

Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology

This website is designed to work with:

  • The latest two versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge
  • Current iOS and Android mobile browsers
  • Common assistive technologies such as screen readers and screen magnifiers

You may experience issues using very old browsers that no longer receive security updates.

Technical specifications

Accessibility relies on:

  • Semantic HTML5, ARIA labels and structured headings
  • CSS for layout and responsive design
  • JavaScript for interactive elements

Third-party platforms and payments

We use payment services including Stripe, PayPal, Klarna and Clearpay.

These third-party providers are responsible for the accessibility of their hosted checkouts and widgets.

We implement them in ways that support:

  • Keyboard access
  • Visible focus
  • Screen reader compatibility

Shop, account and checkout

  • You may check out as a guest or create an account.
  • Forms include visible labels, instructions and inline error messages.
  • We are improving error associations and focus management on legacy templates.

Our approach to testing

We use a mix of automated and manual testing:

  • Automated accessibility checks aligned with WCAG 2.2 AA
  • Manual testing with keyboard-only navigation
  • Screen reader testing on priority journeys (navigation, search, product pages, cart, checkout)
  • Periodic external audits of representative templates

Testing follows the GOV.UK guidance for accessibility auditing and statements.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

We maintain an internal accessibility checklist and treat accessibility as a release requirement for core user journeys.

Current improvements include:

  • Completing image alt text and decorative image audits
  • Standardising focus styles and interactive states
  • Improving colour contrast on legacy visuals
  • Enhancing form error handling and live announcements
  • Ensuring captions and transcripts for new video content

We review all updates against WCAG 2.2 AA and relevant European standards such as EN 301 549.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

  • Testing methodology: Automated and manual testing across key templates and user journeys, with issues triaged into active development cycles.
