CHARITY & GIVING BACK
From donating and signing petitions to protesting and raising awareness, there are many ways we support sustainable fashion. We committed to donating 5% of our profits to charity from the day one.
We donate to sustainable charities that focus on creating lasting solutions rather than providing temporary fixes. This is because they aim to address the root causes of issues, ensuring that communities can continue to thrive independently in the future. This aligns with our mission and corporate values.
To date we have supported the following causes;
-
Educating leaders - Providing the best possible support to communities in need of Education
-
Giving water - Helping those where the need is WATER
-
Children's classroom- Creating the environment and space for children to learn, so they can thrive
-
Sustainable living - Supporting vulnerable families across the globe, providing the best possible support to communities in need of sustainable projects
-
Heal humanity - providing immediate relief to communities affected by disasters and conflicts, but also helping to create sustainable healthcare solutions
Going forward we plan to work in partnership with sustainable fashion organizations that actively work to educate people on the environmental and social issues in the fashion industry, including garment workers’ rights, policy change, and much more. Visit their websites below to learn about the work they do, and how you can get involved and support their causes.
OUR FIGHT AGAINST FAST FASHION
Step 1. We reject fast fashion
Fast fashion poses a significant challenge to the industry. Over the last 15 years, global clothing production has doubled, leading to increased consumption of low-quality items that are utilized 40% less. At DCK we aim to break away from the outdated and exploitative fast fashion system. By opting for pre-loved items over fast fashion, our community is already making a positive impact on the fashion industry.
FACTS:
-
It takes 2,700 litres of water to make one t-shirt - enough for one person to drink for 900 days.
-
Buying a used garment extends its life by 2.2 years on average, reducing its carbon, waste and water footprint by 73%
Step 2. We educate, empower, enrich
Our platform educates and empowers our community to make more informed choices, helping to understand the case for investing in high quality, longer-lasting, and more affordable pre-loved luxury fashion.
We enrich our community to support a cultural shift, inspiring a new generation of eco-conscious individuals. With circular fashion becoming a way of life for many, with people eagerly participating in recycling, upcycling and reusing luxury childrenswear, breaking free from the destructive cycle of fast fashion.
FACTS:
-
3 out of 5 fast fashion items end up in landfill. Over 15 million fashion items arrive at the Kantamanto market in Ghana every week. 40% of these items leave the market as waste.
-
85% of our customers are willing to buy fewer and better quality items
-
79% of our sellers want to give a second life to their item.
-
By buying pre-loved on DKC, you can reduce your impact by 10X.
Step 3. We power on and ahead, making impactful change
We dream of a collective and collaborative circular fashion utopia that materialises and ripple effects to reach beyond our borders. With other cities started adopting similar practices, recognizing the importance of breaking free from the destructive cycle of fast fashion.
Our community constantly inspires us – and we work hard to do the same. That means taking a stand when we need to, sharing the knowledge that inspires us, and celebrating every win.
We can’t change the fashion industry on our own. It is only by sharing the responsibility of protecting our planet can we redefine the way fashion is produced, consumed, and valued, creating a more sustainable and inclusive future for all.
FACTS:
-
To align with the 1.5-degree pathway by 2030, we need to live in a world in which 1 in 5 garments are traded through circular business models.
-
90% of items we have sold replaced a
first-hand or new purchase.
